Domestic Carrer

Multan Sultans selected Shafique in the November 2017 Pakistan Super League player draft, although he did not participate in the match. He scored 133 runs in December 2019 to make his first-class debut for Central Punjab in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy during the 2019–20 season.

He played his first Twenty20 match in September 2020 for Central Punjab in the 2020-21 National T20 Cup, scoring 102 unanswered. Thus, he made history by becoming the first batsman from Pakistan to score a century on both his first-class and T20 debut.

Shafique was added to Lahore Qalandar’s roster in December 2021 in preparation for the 2022 Pakistan Super League (PSL).

International Carrer

Following his achievements in the National T20 Cup, he was selected for a 22-person “probables” team for Pakistan’s home series against Zimbabwe in October 2020.


He was included in Pakistan’s 15-man team for the third One Day International (ODI) game against Zimbabwe in November 2020. However, he was not selected to participate. On November 10, 2020, he played in his first Twenty20 International (T20I) match for Pakistan against Zimbabwe. He was included in Pakistan’s 35-man team that same month for their trip to New Zealand.


He was included in Pakistan’s Test squad for their matchup with South Africa in January 2021.
He was selected for both Pakistan’s Test squad for their series against Zimbabwe and their One Day International squad for their series against South Africa in March 2021.

Shafique was once more selected for the Pakistan ODI team in June 2021, this time for the series against England. Additionally, he was included in the Test team for Pakistan’s match against the West Indies.


He was included in Pakistan’s ODI team for their series against New Zealand in September 2021. He was included in the Pakistan Shaheens team the following month for their tour of Sri Lanka.
He was included in Pakistan’s Test team for their series against Bangladesh in November 2021. On November 26, 2021, he played in his first Test for Pakistan against Bangladesh.

Shafique was included in Pakistan’s Test team for the series against Australia in February 2022. In the fourth inning of the first game, Abdullah Shafique reached his first century. For the three-Test games, he scored 397 runs.

Shafique was included in the Pakistan One Day International (ODI) team for their series against Australia in March 2022.


He was included in the Pakistan ODI squad for the West Indies series in May 2022.
He was included in the Pakistani team for the visit to Sri Lanka in July 2022. He struck an unprecedented 160* in the fourth innings of the first Test to win the game in Galle.

He was included in the Pakistan ODI team for their tour of the Netherlands in August 2022. On August 21, 2022, he played in his first ODI for Pakistan against the Netherlands.
He hit his third Test century against England in Rawalpindi in December 2022.


He made his World Cup debut in October 2023 in Hyderabad, India, playing for Pakistan against Sri Lanka in the 2023 World Cup. To commemorate the occasion, he scored his first ODI century in his very first World Cup game, leading Pakistan to victory and shattering the previous record for the highest successful run chase in a World Cup match.
