Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo, which Schneider authored and acted in, was an unexpected hit in 1999, prompting a sequel. While Schneider’s film roles have not always received critical acclaim, they have proven popular with audiences, contributing to his popularity in the entertainment industry.

Early Life

Robert Michael Schneider, also known as Rob Schneider, was born in San Francisco, California, on October 31, 1963. Pilar (née Monroe) and Marvin Schneider reared him in Pacifica, California, a nearby neighborhood. His mother was a former kindergarten teacher and school board president, and his father worked as a real estate dealer. He has an older brother named John, who is a producer. Schneider is of mixed heritage. His father is Jewish, his mother is Catholic, and his maternal grandparents came from the Philippines. He graduated from Terra Nova High School in 1982 and went on to study at San Francisco State University.

Career

Rob Schneider began performing stand-up comedy while still in high school, frequently opening for the local San Francisco band Head On, which was managed by his older brother. Schneider continued to sing at nightclubs around the Bay Area after high school, including the Holy City Zoo and The Other Café. He also appeared as a guest on local radio shows. Schneider was invited to appear on HBO’s 13th Annual Young Comedians special, which was presented by comic Dennis Miller, after opening for him in 1987. Schneider was offered a writing position on the NBC late-night sketch comedy series “Saturday Night Live” (SNL) in 1988 as a result of the HBO special’s prominence.

Schneider’s career as a writer on “Saturday Night Live” was brief. He rapidly joined the cast, progressing from featured player to full cast member. From 1990 to 1994, he portrayed characters such as “Tiny Elvis” and “Orgasm Guy,” as well as the unpleasant office worker Richard Laymer, “The Richmeister,” “Carlo” from the Il Cantore Restaurant comedy, and “The Sensitive Naked Man.” In addition to the show’s live tapings, he appeared in the video release “The Bad Boys of Saturday Night Live” alongside fellow SNL comedians Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, David Spade, and Chris Farley.

After leaving SNL in 1994, Schneider played supporting roles in many films, including “Surf Ninjas,” “Judge Dredd,” “The Beverly Hillbillies,” “Demolition Man,” and “Down Periscope.” He also had regular roles on the television series “Coach,” and in 1996, he co-starred with Ron Eldard and Justine Bateman in the NBC sitcom “Men Behaving Badly.” “Men Behaving Badly” was originally a British show, but Schneider appeared in an American remake. It lasted for two seasons.

He then went on to star in films like “Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo” (1999), which he co-wrote and managed to gross $92 million globally on a $17 million budget despite strong negative critical reviews; its sequel “Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo” (2005), which failed to impress both critics and audiences and was nominated for Worst Picture at the 25th Golden Raspberry Awards; “The Animal” (2001), which he also co-wrote; “The Hot Chick” (2002), once again co-written by  Schneider; “The Benchwarmers” (2006), produced by Adam Sandler and co-starring David Spade and Jon Heder.

He also made cameo appearances in films such as “Muppets from Space” (1999) and “Around the World in 80 Days” (2004); starred as the title character in the CBS comedy “Rob,” loosely based on events and circumstances in his life; and starred in the Netflix sitcom “Real Rob,” which follows his life and includes his real-life wife, Patricia.

Schneider’s collaboration with fellow SNL alum Adam Sandler is not limited to “The Benchwarmers”. He has been in several Sandler films, including “The Waterboy” (1998), “Little Nicky” (2000), “50 First Dates” (2004), “The Longest Yard” (2005), “Bedtime Stories” (2008), “I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry” (2007), “You Don’t Mess with the Zohan” (2008), and “Grown Ups” (2010). He also narrated Sandler’s animated feature, “Eight Crazy Nights” (2002).

Schneider has acted and written screenplays, as well as directed. His directorial debut occurred in 2009, with the comedy “Big Stan” being released in the United States. He directed, starred in, and co-produced the picture with his brother, John Schneider. Outside of cinema and performing, he released his comedy CD “Registered Offender” (2010), embarked on an international stand-up comedy tour in 2010, and participated in numerous endorsement activities. He was a spokesperson for State Farm Insurance until he was fired in 2014 due to his anti-vaccination beliefs. He also serves as the official celebrity spokesman for the Taiwan Tourism Bureau and the Ten Ren Tea Company in Taiwan.

Personal Life

Schneider’s oldest daughter, musician Elle King, was born in 1989. Her mother is a former model London King, with whom Schneider previously had a relationship. In April 2011, he married Patricia Azarcoya Arce, a TV producer. Patricia’s hometown is Monterrey, Mexico. They have two daughters, born in 2012 and 2016.

Due to a lack of financing, music education programs were not available in his hometown of Pacifica, California, for a long period. Schneider launched the Rob Schneider Music Foundation in 1996 to restore music education to Pacifica’s elementary schools. The foundation covered the price of musical instruments and other equipment, as well as teachers’ wages.
