What is Drake’s Net Worth?

Drake is a Canadian-born actor, producer, and rapper worth $250 million. Drake is routinely ranked among the highest-paid entertainers in the world. Drake began his acting career by participating in the popular Canadian television series “Degrassi: The Next Generation”. However, it was music that would give him a household name around the world, and he has been creating or recording successful tracks since 2006. His debut studio album, “Thank Me Later,” peaked at number one on the hip-hop charts in 2010, and he hasn’t stopped since. He has toured extensively, participated in numerous music programs and awards shows, and has generally focused on expanding his fan base.

Drake has earned about $430 million throughout his career, before taxes and lifestyle expenses.

Between June 2017 and June 2018, Drake made $45 million. In 2017, he made a total of $95 million. From June 2018 to June 2019, he earned $75 million. He made $50 million over the next twelve months. Scroll down for a comprehensive year-by-year breakdown of Drake’s earnings.

Universal Music Group Contract

Universal Music Group revealed on its first-quarter earnings call in May 2022 that Drake has been re-signed to a “long-term worldwide partnership.” The agreement covered everything from “recorded music to music publishing, film, television, and brands.” Drake has hinted at this deal in a few lyrics. In one song, he raps about negotiating a deal that includes “360 up front.” Following Universal’s confirmation, some have interpreted the phrase to suggest that the agreement paid him $360 million upfront. Other sources estimate the deal’s value at $400 million or higher. Before signing, Drake’s song catalog generated $50 million in revenue for the corporation each year.

Assuming the agreement was worth $400 million after taxes, Drake would have received $200 million upfront.

Early Life

Aubrey Drake Graham was born on October 24, 1986, in Toronto, Canada. Dennis, Drake’s father, worked as a drummer and performed with performers such as Jerry Lee Lewis. Drake’s mother, Sandra, sometimes known as Sandi, was an English teacher and florist. Drake went to a Jewish day school and had a ceremonial Bar Mitzvah party.

Sandi and Dennis divorced when Aubrey was five. His father eventually moved to Memphis, where he was caught and detained for several years on narcotics charges. Aubrey stayed with his mother in Toronto, but he visited his father in Memphis every summer (when he was not incarcerated). Drake would later accuse Dennis of being absent during his upbringing, which Dennis has categorically refuted and said was inflated to sell songs.

Drake and his mother resided in the lower half of a two-story townhouse in Forest Hill, an upscale suburb, starting in sixth grade. Drake lived in the basement; his mother lived on the street-level floor. They were not wealthy; in fact, money was tight.

Drake developed an interest in acting and singing while at Forest Hill Collegiate Institute. He eventually attended Vaughan Road Academy, where he was bullied because of his multiracial and religious heritage. He briefly dropped out before eventually graduating in 2012.

Degrassi

When Drake was 15, his childhood friend’s father, an acting agent, helped him win a role on the long-running Canadian adolescent drama television show “Degrassi: The Next Generation.” In the episode, he portrayed Jimmy Brooks, a basketball player who became crippled after being shot by a classmate. He was a cast member from seasons 1–7, with guest appearances in 2008.

Drake’s mother grew ill when he was on Degrassi and was unable to work. For several years, his Degrassi paychecks served as their sole source of income. At the time, his annual income from the show was $50,000. That’s almost $2000 each month after taxes. He later described this period as follows:

My mother was very sick. We were very poor, like broke. The only money I had coming in was off of Canadian TV.

Music Career

Inspired by rap giants such as Jay-Z, who won record agreements after establishing themselves as independent musicians, Aubrey – now known by his middle name “Drake” as his stage name – began producing mixtapes in 2006.

In February 2005, he published his first mixtape, “Room for Improvement,” through his website and his MySpace profile. He sold more than 6,000 copies directly. He released his second mixtape, “Comeback Season,” the following year. He released the mixtape on his own freshly established label, October’s Very Own (aka OVO Records). This mixtape includes the smash underground tune “Replacement Girl.” The song’s music video was the first by an unsigned Canadian rapper to be shown on BET. One version of the song included a sample from the song “Man of the Year” by Brisco, Flo Rida, and Lil Wayne.

Jas Prince, a Houston-based producer and founder of Rap-A-Lot Records, heard the song and recommended it to Lil Wayne. Lil Wayne was impressed and contacted Drake, inviting him to Houston to join his Tha Carter III tour. Throughout the tour, Drake and Wayne created and recorded many songs, including “Brand New,” “Forever,” and “Ransom.”

Young Money Entertainment

Drake, contrary to popular belief, has not yet signed with Wayne’s record label. He released his third mixtape, “So Far Gone,” in 2009. He offered the mixtape for free download on his OVO website. The mixtape had appearances by Lil Wayne, Lloyd, Trey Songz, Omarion, and Bun B. After being downloaded 2000 times in its first hour, the mixtape was certified Gold by the RIAA and reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. The mixtape was subsequently published as an EP, which peaked at #6 on the Billboard 200 and received the 2010 Juno Award for Rap Recording of the Year.

Drake was still an independent artist, but he was in high demand in the music industry. A bidding war ensued, with numerous labels vying to sign him. The urgency has been dubbed as “the biggest bidding war in music history,” but this has not been proven.

On June 29, 2009, Drake struck a deal with Lil Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment. The record agreement was a joint effort between Young Money and its parent company, Cash Money, with Universal Music handling distribution.

YOLO Estate

Drake, who was born in Canada, moved to Hidden Hills, California, in 2012, when he purchased a huge estate from the former owner of Los Angeles’ Saddle Ranch Bar for $7.7 million in cash. The property, dubbed the YOLO Estate, has various residences, including a 12,000-square-foot main house and a 2,000-square-foot party house. The estate has equestrian stables, a 25-person movie theater, a full-sized basketball court, a sand volleyball court, and one of the largest privately owned pools in Southern California. His lagoon-style pool, which wraps around the house, includes several waterfalls, a swim-up bar, an 80-foot water slide, and a grotto reminiscent of the Playboy Mansion.

In a Rolling Stone interview, Drake revealed that he had his eye on this property for years after searching for the “craziest residential swimming pools” and finding it as one of the results. For years, he used a snapshot of the pool as the background image on his computer. In 2009, the former owner listed the mansion for $27 million. By 2012, the prior owner was facing financial difficulties, so Drake stepped in and bought it for $7.7 million.

In 2015, he purchased the nearby 1.6-acre estate for $2.8 million, expanding his holdings. In 2018, he invested $4.5 million to buy another adjoining house, extending the property once further. His private estate currently includes 6.7 acres of continuous land at the end of a cul-de-sac, which cost $15 million in real estate acquisitions alone.

Drake listed the YOLO Estate in March 2022 for $22.7 million. A buyer could potentially buy the primary residence for $14.8 million.

In April 2022, NFL star Matthew Stafford paid $11 million ($3.6 million above asking price) for two of the three estates that previously comprised the YOLO Estate. Matthew’s two purchases excluded the principal “YOLO” home. In July 2022, a bidder paid $12 million for the third parcel.

Toronto Mansion

Drake spent $6.7 million in 2016 to purchase a block of land in suburban Toronto known as The Bridle Path. He proceeded to construct a 50,000-square-foot home on the two-acre lot. The house has a 10-car garage, a regulation-sized NBA basketball court, a gym, an awards room, and much more. The master bedroom alone is 3,200 square feet.

He also has a condominium in downtown Toronto.

$90 Million Beverly Hills Mansion

On March 8, 2022, it was reported that Drake had agreed to purchase British musician Robbie Williams’ 20-acre Beverly Hills estate. Drake paid $75 million in an off-market deal. Before Robbie Williams, Armand Marciano, co-founder of Guess? clothing brand owned the residence. Drake purchased the mansion through a corporate organization called 11Kip, LLC, with a $52.5 million mortgage from Bank of America, which means he put down $22.5 million cash, or exactly 30%.

Drake placed the Beverly Hills property for sale for $88 million in May 2023, just over a year after paying $75 million for it. He advertised it again in May 2024 at the same price. This is a video tour of Drake’s Beverly Hills residence:

300+ Acre Texas Estate

Drake paid $15 million in October 2023 for a 313-acre property originally known as The Inn at Dos Brisas, now Dos Brisas Ranch. During the early 2000s, the estate served as a private compound for an affluent family. That family turned the property into a resort in 2004. At its peak, The Inn at Dos Brisas was very popular and successful, garnering numerous high-profile awards.

The Inn, like many other hospitality businesses, was severely impacted by COVID-19 and was forced to close permanently in 2022. The estate was listed for sale in April 2022 for $17.5 million. The price was reduced to $15 million in May 2023. Drake purchased the property in October 2023 for an undisclosed sum larger than $10 million. Here is a video tour:

Air Drake Private Jet

In May 2019, Drake shared an Instagram video revealing his recently acquired Boeing 767 private plane, which he has named (and painted) “Air Drake.” According to the video, Drake is delighted to own the jet outright, adding that there is “no rental, no timeshare, no co-owners.” A similar type and quality private airplane would cost between $75 and $100 million.
