Career
Fawad Khan began his acting career with the television series Jutt and Bond. He formed Entity Paradigm, an alternative rock band, with the show’s co-stars and launched his musical career as its lead singer. The band appeared on the final episode of Pepsi Battle of the Bands in 2002, and Khan rose to prominence with its debut album, Irtiqa, released in 2003. After approximately 250 gigs, he departed the band to pursue a film career. Khan made his cinematic debut with a supporting role in Khuda Kay Liye (2007), a social drama that became one of Pakistan’s most successful films.
Dastaan (2010), a television period drama, was his first hit, earning him the Best Male Actor Award at the Pakistan Media Awards. Khan starred in the Pakistani television series Humsafar (2011) and Sultana Siddiqui’s family drama Zindagi Gulzar Hai (2012). For both performances, he won the Lux Style Award for Best Actor. Khan made his Bollywood debut with the romantic comedy Khoobsurat (2014), which earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. Khan was born on November 29, 1981 in Karachi, Sindh. He was born into a family of Pashtun descent. His father was born in Patiala (present-day Punjab, India), whereas his mother’s family was from Lucknow (present-day Uttar Pradesh, India), and they moved to Pakistan following British India’s partition in 1947. Khan’s father worked in pharmaceutical sales, thus the family moved to Athens, Dubai, Riyadh, and Manchester during the Gulf War. His family relocated to Lahore, Punjab, when he was 13. He has two sisters: Aliya, an architect, and Sana, a physician. He presently resides in Lahore.
Khan attended an American school, where he claimed he was bullied due to his meek, placid, and non-combative personality. Khan completed his A-levels at Lahore Grammar School, Johar Town (LGS JT), and earned a bachelor’s degree in software engineering from the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences (NUCES) in Lahore. Because he couldn’t find work as a programmer, he quickly began acting. Khan revealed in an interview with Forbes India that he, too, had been unable to find work in marketing. By then, he could play guitar, bass, and drums and had taken over as main singer for Entity Paradigm. Khan’s first amateur performance was in the title role of the drama Spartacus.
