Personal Information About Yumna Zaidi

Yumna Zaidi is a Pakistani actress and model. She was born on July 30th, 1989, and is known for taking on difficult and odd parts in the Urdu television business. She has appeared in several prominent television shows. She had no intention of pursuing a career in acting; but, at the suggestion of her partner Affan Waheed, she dabbled in acting by playing a supporting role in ARY Digital’s 2012 home drama Thakan, followed by a lead role in the acting Khushi Ek Roag.

Career

Her first screen appearance was as a supporting character in ARY Digital’s 2012 domestic drama Thakan, which was followed by a main role in the melodrama Khushi Ek Roag. She then starred in Urdu 1’s Teri Raah Main Rul Gai, opposite Samiya Mumtaz and Sami Khan, as Maryam.

Yumna was praised for her portrayal of emotionally intense characters in Geo TV’s Meri Dulari (2013) and Hum TV’s Ullu Baraye Farokht Nahi (2013), the latter of which earned her a Hum Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Her renowned performance as a troubled wife in the tragic romance Rishtay Kuch Adhooray Se (2013) cemented her as Pakistan’s leading actress, earning her Hum Award nominations for Best Actress and Best Actress Popular. She later made a guest appearance in the 2013 series Sannata and played a supporting role in Kashif Nisar’s directorial Kis Se Kahoon, with Sajal Ali and Agha Ali.

She gained wider recognition for portraying a range of characters in the dramas Mausam (2014), Madawa (2015), Guzaarish (2015), Jugnoo (2015), Kaanch Ki Guriya (2015), Paras (2015), and Aap ki Kaneez (2015), some of which garnered her several Best Actress nominations.

In 2016, she participated in Momina Duraid’s Zara Yaad Kar, playing Uzma Ikhtiar alongside Zahid Ahmed and Sana Javed. She then appeared in Hum TV’s Yeh Raha Dil in 2017, opposite Ahmed Ali. Zaidi played Hayat, whose mother died and father abandoned her at an early age. Her on-screen connection with Ali was acclaimed by audiences, earning her a nomination for Best On-screen Couple at the Hum Awards. She later signed Kashif Nisar’s directorial project Pinjra.

In the same year, she played Sila, a victim of sexual harassment, in Bee Gul’s directed film Dar Si Jaati Hai Sila, alongside Noman Ijaz and Saman Ansari. A critic from The News International praised her saying, “With fewer dialogues and a tough subject at hand, Yumna pulled off her role effortlessly, making it believable from beginning till the end”.

In 2018-19, she played Samra, the widow of a feudal lord, in Pukaar, and Mehreen Jabbar directed 7th Sky Entertainment’s Project Dil Kiya Karey. She played Hajra in the social drama Inkaar, alongside Imran Ashraf and Sami Khan, and made a guest appearance in Angeline Malik’s anthology series Choti Choti Batain. She also starred in a prolonged cameo in Ishq Zahe Naseeb and as Raina in the telefilm Shaadi Impossible.

She made her cinematic debut in Nayab (2024), directed by Umair Nasir Ali, playing the eponymous character of an aspiring cricketer. Shafiq Siddiqui, writing for Tribune, disliked the film and commented, “It does not offer any dialogue that bears recall value, the film grapples with its excessively long runtime, leading to a loss of impact at various junctures”. Zaidi’s performance has also received criticism, with one critic writing, “Despite playing the titular character, she [struggles] for proper projection and lines that would make her character memorable.” The picture finally bombed at the box office.
